Budget Cuts Hit Day Care Centers

PHOENIX – Employment rates are improving, but the state still has a big budget deficit.

Now cuts to the budget are affecting businesses in Arizona. One industry hit especially hard: day care centers.

DES is offering less day care funding, and is seeing more vacant day care rooms.

According to the Arizona Child Care Association, parents of 18,000 children cannot afford day care. Families are leaving kids at home or with family members, or are forced to quit their jobs to take care of them.

FOX 10′s Britt Moreno went to Kiddie Kare in Phoenix, and the people there hope budget cuts won’t force the doors to shut permanently.
